The following information was sent to South families via email today, August 31, 2020. It will also be linked on the COVID 19 updates page for future reference.
The Classic 8 Conference has come to consensus on a plan for spectators at our athletic events. It is important to understand that the plan will be re-evaluated at minimum on a two week basis.
If events are going well we may increase capacity, and conversely if spectators are not being compliant with masks or social distancing we may have to suspend attendance and reevaluate our plans. We will be in regular contact with our opponents, and if spectator access is suspended for any reason, we will communicate that out through our coaches.
The plan is to allow two spectators for each athlete, both home and away, at each event. Each team will be issued passes for the athletes on their roster to be used for free entry at both home and away events. These passes will be issued to the athletes about a week before their first game. Those passes can be used by parents, siblings, or family friends in any combination but are strictly limited to what is given out. Please do not lose these passes as they will not be re-issued for any reason.
For those who do not have a pass and can not attend a contest in person, South High School will be live streaming the following home events at no cost – Girls Volleyball Varsity/JV, Boys Volleyball Varsity/JV, and Football at all levels. We will be showing on a delayed basis Boys Soccer Varsity, Girls Swim/Dive. (This is due to the location of our cameras and technology) Look on our athletic website: goblackshirts.com for how to get access to this service and more information will be shared as available. The rest of the C8 conference will have live streaming available where possible – we will push that info out as it becomes available to us. Please be sure to follow our social media (Facebook, Athletic Office Twitter, Booster Twitter)
At all events, it will be important to follow directions and stay physically distanced from the teams. We are trying to keep them safe and healthy to be able to play. After events we need spectators to stay back, especially around courts or finish lines and ideally meet their athlete at the car if you are driving them. For some of our events we will have our teams stay on the field until spectators are out of the stadium or playing area.
We look forward to hopefully expanding access to our events, thank you for helping us prioritize the health and safety of our athletes so they can continue to compete.
If you have questions, contact the Athletic Office.
